Divizia A
The Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1, is a Romanian professional league for men's association football clubs. Currently sponsored by betting company Superbet, it is officially known as the SuperLiga. It is the country's top football competition, being contested by 16 clubs which take part in a promotion and relegation system with the Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. The Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 campaign, being currently on the 29th place in UEFA's league coefficient ranking list. It is administered by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal, also known by the acronym LPF. Constantin Tabarcea
Constantin Tabarcea (8 February 1937 – 14 July 1963) was a Romanian footballer who played as a midfielder. Career On 14 July 1963 he collapsed and died during a match Divizia A match against Dinamo Bacău. Death was attributed to unusual activity of the thymus. He was 26 years old. One week later after his death Petrolul won the 1962–63 Cupa României and before the game, at the team photo, the place from the down row in front of goalkeeper Mihai Ionescu was left free in his memory. Alexandru Fronea (15 November 1933 – 10 April 2013) was a Romanian football defender who played for Romania in the 1960 European Nations' Cup. Club career He was a member of FC Petrolul Ploiești's "golden generation". He became national champion two times with Petrolul, in 1958 and 1959 and won the Romanian Cup in 1963. Vasile Sfetcu (10 May 1937 - 16 September 2016) was a Romanian football goalkeeper and manager. Club career Vasile Sfetcu was born on 10 May 1937 in Ploiești, Romania, starting to play football at junior level in 1951 at local club, Metalul, afterwards going to play for Petrolul Ploiești where he made his Divizia A debut on 24 November 1954 in a 3–1 away loss against Metalul Hunedoara. Nicolae Oaidă
Nicolae Oaidă (born 9 April 1933) is a Romanian former footballer and manager. Career Nicolae Oaidă was born in Bod, Brașov on 9 April 1933 and started playing football in 1946 at the youth center of Steagul Roșu Brașov, later in 1950 moving to Locomotiva Brașov. He made his Divizia A debut on 16 May 1954 playing for Dinamo Brașov in a 3–0 loss against Locomotiva Timișoara. After one season at Dinamo Brașov, Oaidă went to play for two seasons at Dinamo Bacău, managing to help the team earn a promotion to the first league in his first season spent there. In 1957 he went to play for Progresul București, a team where he would spend the rest of his career, playing for 12 seasons, including one in the second division, earning a total of 226 league appearances and 77 goals scored. Viorel Mateianu
Viorel Mateianu (1 June 1938 – 25 November 1997) was a Romanian football player and coach. Club career Mateianu was born in Lipănești, Prahova and started playing football in the Romanian lower leagues at Flacăra Boldești and Progresul CPCS București. He made his Divizia A debut on 25 August 1957, playing for Progresul București in a 3–2 victory in which he scored a goal against Energia Petroșani, shortly after his debut, Mateianu was nicknamed "Little Alfredo Di Stéfano". 1958–59 Divizia B
The 1958–59 Divizia B was the 19th season of the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The format with two series has been maintained, both of them having 14 teams. At the end of the season only the winner of the first series promoted to Divizia A, because the winner of the second series was ineligible for promotion and no teams relegated to Regional Championship, because the format will be expanded again starting with the next season.
