1936–37 Cupa României
The 1936–37 Cupa României was the fourth edition of Romania's most prestigious football cup competition. The title was won by Rapid București after a final against Ripensia Timișoara. It was the second cup for Rapid, and the first of six consecutive successes. Format The competition is an annual knockout tournament with pairings for each round drawn at random. There are no seeds for the draw. The draw also determines which teams will play at home. Each tie is played as a single leg. If a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes in extra time, and if the scored is still tight after 120 minutes, there a replay will be played, usually at the ground of the team who were away for the first game. From the first edition, the teams from Divizia A entered in competition in sixteen finals, rule which remained till today. Fotbal Club Rapid 1923, commonly known as Rapid București () or simply as Rapid, is a Romanian professional football club based in Bucharest, which competes in the Liga I. It was founded in 1923 by employees of the Grivița workshops as ''Asociația Culturală și Sportivă CFR'' ("CFR Cultural and Sports Association"). Domestically, Rapid București is one of the most successful clubs in the country, having won three national titles, 13 Cupa României and four Supercupa României. Internationally, its highest achievements are reaching the quarter-finals of the 1972–73 Cup Winners' Cup and of the 2005–06 UEFA Cup, and the final of the 1940 Mitropa Cup, the latter not being played because of the Second World War. Club Atletic Oradea (Nagyváradi Atlétikai Club) (), commonly known as CA Oradea (Nagyváradi AC), or simply as CAO (NAC), is a Romanian football club based in Oradea, Bihor County, which competes in the Liga IV. Fotbal Club Olimpia MCMXXI Satu Mare, commonly known as Olimpia Satu Mare or simply as Olimpia, is a Romanian professional football club from Satu Mare, Satu Mare County, Romania, founded on 5 May 1921, re-founded in 2010 and 2018. Unirea Tricolor București was a Romanian football club from Bucharest, south-east Romania, founded in 1914 as Tricolor București. It was one of the most famous inter-war clubs in Romania. History Tricolor București Tricolor, first named Teiul, was set up in 1914, in the district of Obor, by some high-school students. Among the first players was Costel Rădulescu, a 1930s coach and manager of the Romanian national team and co-founder of the modern national championship system (league system). After World War I, the club became champion of the Bucharest Region and played in the final tournament of the National Championship. Asociația Sportivă CFR Brașov, commonly known as CFR Brașov, was a football club from Brașov, Romania. The club was founded in the year 1921 as CFR Brașov (Brașov Romanian Railway Association). They played in the first edition of 1933–34 Cupa României, beating Jiul Petroșani in the first round. They were eliminated in the second round after losing to UD Reșița. Stăruinţa Oradea (Hungarian: Nagyváradi Törekvés; English: Perseverance) was a Romanian football club from Oradea. They reached the final round of the Romanian football championship five times in the 1920s. Stăruinţa Oradea was founded in Austria-Hungary in 1912, and originally competed in the Hungarian national championship. The team reached in 1922 for the first time as the winner of the Oradea Region finals to the Romanian football championship. There, the club was eliminated by eventual runners-up Victoria Cluj in a replay part of quarterfinals. Their main rival was CA Oradea, a team with more performances then Stăruinţa Oradea. Asociația Fotbal Club Gloria Arad, also known as AFC Gloria Arad, or simply as Gloria Arad is a Romanian football club based in Arad, Arad County, currently playing in the Liga VI. Gymnastics Society Sibiu ( ro, Societatea de Gimnastică Sibiu, german: Hermannstädter Turnverein - HTV) was a German sport club based in Sibiu. Chinezul Timișoara was a football club that played both in the Romanian and the Hungarian championship during its existence. It was based in Timișoara, Romania (at the time of foundation Temesvár, Austria-Hungary). History The club was established in 1910 under the name ''Temesvári Kinizsi SE'' with the support of the local Rail Workers' Association. It was named after Pál Kinizsi, a general in the army of king Matthias Corvinus and Comes of Temes. The crest of the club also reflected to it, as it featured an arm holding a mill stone. This was related to old Hungarian folk tales which stated that Pál Kinizsi was a very strong miller who offered the king a glass of water on a mill stone with one hand instead of a platter.
