The 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery is a regular artillery regiment of the Canadian Army. It is based at CFB Shilo. It forms part of the 3rd Canadian Division's 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group. British Expeditionary Force (World War II)
The British Expeditionary Force (BEF) was the contingent of the British Army sent to French Third Republic, France in 1939 after Britain and France declared war on Nazi Germany on 3 September, beginning the Second World War. The BEF existed from 2 September 1939 when the BEF GHQ was formed until 31 May 1940, when GHQ closed down and its troops reverted to the command of Home Forces. During the 1930s, the British government had planned to deter war by abolishing the Ten Year Rule and rearming from the very low level of readiness of the early 1930s. The bulk of the extra money went to the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force but plans were made to re-equip a small number of Army and Territorial Army (United Kingdom), Territorial Army divisions for service overseas. William Henry Pferinger Elkins
Major General William Henry Pferinger Elkins, (13 June 1883–1964) was a Canadian soldier. He was a commandant of the RMC. Education 624 Major General William Henry Pferinger Elkins was born on 13 June 1883 at Sherbrooke, Quebec. He graduated from the Bishop's College School in Quebec in 1899 and Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, in June 1905. Career He was commissioned in the Royal Canadian Artillery; his first posting was to "B" Battery, RCHA. He served with "N" Battery, RHA in India from 1908 to 1910, and while on the sub-continent completed his captain qualifying examination. He served as Commanding Officer RCHA Brigade 1916–1922. In December 1917, he was evacuated due to illness and convalesced at the Prince of Wales Hospital for Officers at Marylebone, England. 2nd Canadian Division
The 2nd Canadian Division (2 Cdn Div; ) is a formation of the Canadian Army in the province of Quebec, Canada. The present command was created 2013 when Land Force Quebec Area was re-designated. The main unit housed in this division is the Royal 22nd Regiment based at CFB Valcartier near Quebec City, which is the largest regiment in the Canadian Army. The division draws its historical lineage from formations that existed during the First and Second World Wars. Henry Edward Burstall
Lieutenant General Sir Henry Edward Burstall, (26 August 1870 – 8 February 1945) was a Canadian general. Early life Born at Domaine Cataraqui, Sillery, Quebec, the son of the wealthy merchant John B. Burstall (1832–1896) and Fanny Bell Forsyth, daughter of James Bell Forsyth, the builder of Domaine Cataraqui, in 1831. Burstall was educated at Bishop's College School and the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario (1887–89)(#246). Military service Burstall was commissioned in the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1889. In 1898 he served with the Yukon Field Force. He went to South Africa with the 1st Canadian Contingent during the Second Boer War. From 1901 to 1902, he served with the South African Constabulary in the Transvaal. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by King George I of Great Britain, George I on 18 May 1725. Charles William Drury
Major-General Charles William Drury (1865-1913) was a Canadian General often credited as the "Father of Modern Artillery in Canada" and briefly in command of the Canadian Artillery in South Africa during the Second Boer War, Boer War. Early life and education Drury was born in 1856 in Kingston, Ontario and was the son of Ward Chipman Drury and Charlotte Augusta Hayne, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel R.A Hayne.
