1997 FIFA Confederations Cup
The 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup was the first Confederations Cup to be organised by FIFA. The tournament had previously been played in 1992 and 1995 as the King Fahd Cup. This edition of the tournament was hosted by Saudi Arabia, as with the previous editions, in December 1997 and was the first to feature representatives from all of the FIFA confederations. It was won by Brazil, who beat Australia 6–0 in the final. After winning the 1997 tournament, Brazil became the first country to be the reigning champion of both major FIFA tournaments (the World Cup and the Confederations Cup), as well as champion of their respective confederation by winning the 1997 Copa América. This feat has since been accomplished once by France, victorious in the 1998 World Cup, UEFA Euro 2000 and the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. Rónald Paolo Montero Iglesias (born 3 September 1971) is a Uruguayan football manager and former player, who played as a central defender or left-back and is the manager of Primavera 1 team Juventus U19. Montero began his career in Uruguay with Peñarol in 1990, before moving to Italian side Atalanta in 1992. Luis Diego López Breijo (; born 22 August 1974) is a Uruguayan former footballer who played as a defender and manager. He is the current manager of Ecuadorian club Barcelona SC. Claudio Sebastián Flores (born May 10, 1976) is a Uruguayan former football goalkeeper. He last played for Atlántida Juniors in the Eastern Canelones Regional League. Flores started his professional career with Peñarol in 1995. During his time with the club he won four Uruguayan Premier division titles in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999. In 2000, Flores joined Lanús in Argentina where he played until the end of 2004. He then had a short spell with Libertad in Paraguay before returning to Peñarol.
