1996 USISL Professional League
The 1996 USISL Professional League was the second highest of the three outdoor men's leagues run by the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues during the summer of 1996. Overview This season, the USISL introduced several changes. First, the league added a third, higher league above the professional league. Consequently, several 1995 Pro League teams moved up and did not compete in the 1996 Pro League. Second, the USISL aligned its rules with the newly created Major Soccer League. In previous seasons, the USISL had used 60 minute halves and a shootout for every foul committed after the seventh foul of each half. Both of these were gone for the 1996 season. The USISL also changed its regular season points system to match MLS. This meant each win was worth 3 points and each shootout win was worth 1 point. United Systems Of Independent Soccer Leagues
United Soccer League (USL), formerly known as United Soccer Leagues, is a soccer league in the United States and Canada. It organizes several men's and women's leagues, both professional and amateur. Men's leagues currently organized are the USL Championship, USL League One, USL League Two, and the youth Super Y League. A new women's league, the USL W League, began play in 2022. DFW Tornados (also known as Dallas–Fort Worth Tornados) was an American soccer team based in Dallas, Texas, United States. Founded in 1986, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Mid South Division of the Southern Conference. The franchise folded at the end of the 2010 season and left the league thereafter. Cascade Surge was an American soccer team based in Salem, Oregon, United States. Founded in 1995, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, until 2009, when the franchise folded and the team left the league. The team played its home games at McCulloch Stadium on the campus of Willamette University, where they played since 2004. The team's colors were blue and white. Everett Bigfoot
The Seattle BigFoot were an American soccer team based in Seattle, Washington. They were founded in 1995 as the Everett BigFoot and played in the USISL Pro League with home matches at Everett Memorial Stadium. They merged with the Puget Sound Hammers of the USISL Premier League to become the Puget Sound BigFoot who played in the USISL PDSL during the 1997 season at West Seattle Stadium. The Hammers were previously based in the southern Puget Sound region and played home matches in 1995 at high school stadiums in Sumner, Tacoma, and on Vashon Island. The Chico Rooks were an American soccer team, founded in 1993 by Dave Stahl and Eric Snedeker. The team was a member of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, until 2006. The Houston Hurricanes were a soccer club that competed in the United Soccer Leagues from 1996 to 2000. Description and history The Hurricanes were a Division III (D-3) franchise, and their Major League Soccer affiliation was with the Kansas City Wizards owned by Joseph "Joey" Marc Serralta Ives and family making him the first Puerto Rican to own a professional sports franchise in the United States.
