1990–91 Soviet Cup
The 1990–91 Soviet Cup was cup competition of the Soviet Union. The winner of the competition CSKA Moscow qualified for the continental tournament. Teams from Lithuania and Georgia withdrew from all of the Soviet competitions. Political background Although Georgian teams withdrew from the Football Federation of the Soviet Union at the end of 1989, except for FC Dynamo Sukhumi due to the Russian occupation of Abkhazia ( Abkhazia conflict), they were included in the cup competition and awarded technical losses. The Lithuanian clubs, even though they have withdrawn from most of the Soviet Union competitions, competed at the 1990 Baltic League which was a temporary compromise between the Baltic states and the Soviet Union. Nonetheless, Lithuanian Zalgiris without its agreement was included in the competition and was awarded a technical loss. The Football Club 'Dynamo Kyiv', also known as Dynamo Kyiv, or simply Dynamo, ( ) is a Ukrainian professional Association football, football club based in Kyiv. January Events
The January Events () were a series of violent confrontations between the civilian population of Lithuania, supporting independence, and the Soviet Armed Forces. The events took place between 11 and 13 January 1991, after the Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania, restoration of independence by Lithuania. As a result of the Soviet military actions, 14 civilians were killed and over 140 were injured as they peacefully protested for freedom in what is known as the Vilnius massacre. The 13th of January was the most violent day of the month in Lithuania and this was the bloodiest act of repression by Soviet forces since the April 9 tragedy. The events were primarily centered in the capital city Vilnius, but Soviet military activity and confrontations also occurred elsewhere in the country, including Alytus, Šiauliai, Varėna and Kaunas. Football Club Metalist Kharkiv, also known as Football Club Metalist Kharkov or FC Metalist Kharkov ( ), is a Ukrainian professional Association football, football club based in Kharkiv that plays in the Ukrainian First League during the 2023–24 Ukrainian First League, 2023–24 season. CSKA Pamir Dushanbe () is a professional football club based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, that currently plays in the Tajikistan Higher League, the country's top division. Since 1997, the club has been under the patronage of the Tajik Army, like its former rivals CSKA Dushanbe. FC Dynamo Moscow (''FC Dynamo Moskva'', , ) is a Russian professional football club based in Moscow. Dynamo returned to the Russian Premier League for the 2017–18 season after one season in the second-tier Russian Football National League.
