1990 CFL Season
The 1990 CFL season is considered to be the 37th season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 33rd Canadian Football League season. CFL news in 1990 J. Donald Crump was appointed as the eighth CFL Commissioner on Friday, January 5. The CFL Annual Meetings- Canadian College Draft was held in Hamilton for the third straight year. The CFL increased roster limit to 37 players to include 20 non-imports, 14 imports and 3 quarterbacks with the reserve list remaining at two players. The Toronto Argonauts and the BC Lions set a record for most points in a game when they scored 111 points on Saturday, September 1 at the SkyDome. The Argonauts won the game 68–43. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West Division (CFL), West division. They play their home games at Princess Auto Stadium. The Blue Bombers were founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Rugby Football Club, later changed to the Winnipeg Football Club, which is the organization's legal name. Kent Austin
Richard Kent Austin (born June 25, 1963) is an American college football coach and former professional player who is the quarterbacks coach for Auburn University. He played as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) and Canadian Football League (CFL). Austin served as the head football coach at Cornell University from 2010 to 2012. Ottawa Rough Riders
The Ottawa Rough Riders were a Canadian Football League team based in Ottawa, Ontario, founded on September 19, 1876. Formerly one of the oldest and longest-lived professional sports teams in North America, the Rough Riders won the Grey Cup championship nine times. Their most dominant era was the 1960s and 1970s, in which they won five Grey Cups. The team's fortunes waned in the 1980s and 1990s, and they ultimately ceased operations following the 1996 CFL season, 1996 season. Grey Cup's Most Valuable Canadian
The Dick Suderman Trophy () for the Grey Cup's Most Valuable Canadian is awarded annually to the Canadian player deemed to have the best performance in the Grey Cup game, the championship of the Canadian Football League. This award is presented before the Grey Cup trophy is presented. The winner does not necessarily have to play for the Grey Cup winning team in order to qualify. The award was introduced at the 1971 Grey Cup, and the first winner was Dick Suderman, a Canadian defensive end. A year later, just six weeks before the playing of the 1972 Grey Cup, Suderman collapsed and died from a brain hemorrhage after playing a regular season game; the trophy was subsequently renamed in his honour. Greg Battle
Greg Battle (born April 14, 1964) is an American former professional football linebacker who played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He graduated from Arizona State University. He had a tryout with the Denver Broncos of the NFL but turned north to Canada in 1987. He won two CFL Outstanding Defensive player awards in his career, 1990 and 1991, and helped the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to two Grey Cup victories in 1988 and 1990. Tom Burgess (born March 6, 1964) is a former all-star quarterback in the Canadian Football League (CFL). College career Burgess was a graduate of Colgate University, playing from 1982 to 1985, and was inducted into the Colgate University Athletic Hall of Honor in 1986. As a senior on the 1985 squad, he was named honorable mention Associated Press All-American after setting 14 school records in passing and total offense.
