1975 Pontins Professional
The 1975 Pontins Professional was the second edition of the professional invitational snooker tournament which took place in May 1975 in Prestatyn, Wales. The tournament featured eight professional players. The quarter-final and semi-final matches were contested over the best of 13 frames, and the final was the best of 19 frames. Ray Reardon won the event, beating John Spencer 10–4 in the final. Prize money The winner of the event received £1,000 from a total prize pool of £2,500. Prestatyn
Prestatyn (; ) is a seaside town and community in Denbighshire, Wales. Historically a part of Flintshire, it is located on the Irish Sea coast, to the east of Rhyl. Prestatyn has a population of 19,085. Origin of name The name Prestatyn derives from the Old English ''prēosta'' (the genitive plural of ''prēost'' 'priest') and ''tūn'' ('homestead'), and thus means 'the homestead of the priests'. It was recorded in the ''Domesday Book'' as ''Prestetone''. Unlike similarly derived names in England, which generally lost their penultimate syllable and became Preston, the village's name developed a typically Welsh emphasis on the penultimate syllable and a modification of 'ton' to 'tyn', as also happened at Mostyn. Graham Miles
Graham Miles (11 May 1941 – 12 October 2014) was an English snooker player. Career Miles turned professional in 1971. He first gained recognition in 1974, when he reached the final of the World Championship, losing 12–22 to Ray Reardon. As he was left-eye dominant, the right-handed Miles developed an idiosyncratic sighting style with his cue crossing his chin on the left side. This style became more pronounced over time, to the point where the cue ran beneath his left ear. Miles became one of the best known players in Britain, in an era when there was little televised snooker other than the ''Pot Black'' series. He won this tournament at his first attempt in 1974 (after entering as a late replacement for Fred Davis, who withdrew because of illness) and again in 1975.
