Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar
''Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar'' is a radio drama that aired on CBS Radio from February 18, 1949 to September 30, 1962. The first several seasons imagined protagonist Johnny Dollar as a private investigator drama, with Charles Russell, Edmond O'Brien and John Lund portraying Dollar in succession over the years. In 1955 after a yearlong hiatus, the series came back in its best-known incarnation with Bob Bailey starring in "the transcribed adventures of the man with the action-packed expense accountAmerica's fabulous freelance insurance investigator." There were 809 episodes (plus two not-for-broadcast auditions) in the 13-year run, and more than 710 still exist today. Young Love (radio Series)
''Young Love'' is a 30-minute American radio situation comedy that was broadcast on CBS from July 4, 1949, through May 13, 1950. Premise Janet Shaw and James E. Lewis Jr. were secretly married students at a college that prohibited undergraduate marriages. They were wed by a justice of the peace, celebrating afterward with soft drinks and peanut-butter sandwiches at a drug store. Because of the secrecy of their relationship, James lived in a fraternity house, and Janet lived in a girls' dormitory, which added to "the usual problems of newlywed couples". The two usually saw each other on a bench beside a lake on the campus. One exception to the secrecy was Professor Mitch, a member of the college faculty who was James's best man in the wedding. ''The Joan Davis Show'' is a title applied — in some cases specifically and in other cases generically — to several old-time radio comedy programs in the United States, some of which had other distinct titles as indicated below. Comedian Joan Davis starred in the programs, all but one version of which were broadcast on CBS. ''The Sealtest Village Store'' (1943-1945) Singer Rudy Vallée's joining the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II left Sealtest Dairy with no star for ''The Rudy Vallee Show'', which it sponsored. Therefore, the program was revamped and renamed ''The Sealtest Village Store''. Davis was promoted from cast member to star in the new program, which debuted on July 8, 1943, on NBC. Her character was the proprietor of the title store, a woman who "chased men and pined for a steady beau". ''Four Star Playhouse'' is a radio dramatic anthology series in the United States. The 30-minute program was broadcast on NBC beginning in July 1949 and was sustaining. It lasted only three months. ''Four Star Playhouse'' was one of "at least 10" new programs developed for that summer by NBC's estCoast programming department. Overview After spending 10 years in Tibet in a monastery of lamas, wealthy young Jethro Dumont returned to the United States after having become an honorary lama. In addition to that title, he had obtained "curious and secret powers" that he used, as the on-air introduction said, "in his single-handed fight against injustice and crime". In Tibet, green represented justice, so he chose that color as part of his name. Paul Frees portrayed Dumont, and Ben Wright played his loyal Tibetan servant, Tulku. ''The Affairs of Peter Salem'' is an American radio detective drama that was broadcast on Mutual from April 25, 1949, or May 7, 1949, until April 18, 1953. Format Peter Salem came from a small town but lived in the East 80s in New York City. Some neighbors considered him disreputable, possibly because of the strange clients who came looking for his help. He was a "suave and sophisticated private detective". With his sidekick, Marty, Salem avoided violence by using reasoning "to trip up sophisticated lawbreakers from the city." The show's producer, Himan Brown described Salem as "a rather portly, affable bachelor for whom the comforts of life are first thoughts", particularly enjoying good food and relaxing in his easy chair.
