This star is dimly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of +4.87. Based upon an annual parallax shift of , the distance to this star is approximately . It is receding from the Sun with a radial velocity of +7 km/s. This is an A-type main sequence star with a stellar classification of A1 V. Pi Arietis is a multiple star system in the northern constellation of Aries. Its name is a Bayer designation that is Latinized from π Arietis, and abbreviated Pi Ari or π Ari. Based upon parallax measurements made during the Hipparcos mission, this system is approximately distant from Earth, and has an apparent visual magnitude of 5.314. This is bright enough to be faintly seen with the naked eye. The position of this system near the ecliptic means it is subject to lunar occultation. The primary member of this system is an intermediate-mass, B-type main sequence star with a stellar classification of B6 V. John Flamsteed (19 August 1646 – 31 December 1719) was an English astronomer and the first Astronomer Royal. His main achievements were the preparation of a 3,000-star catalogue, ''Catalogus Britannicus'', and a star atlas called '' Atlas Coelestis'', both published posthumously. He also made the first recorded observations of Uranus, although he mistakenly catalogued it as a star, and he laid the foundation stone for the Royal Greenwich Observatory.
