Pyrgos Dirou
Pyrgos Dirou () is a town in Mani, Laconia, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Oitylo of the municipality of East Mani. It is located around from Areopoli. History The earliest known mention of the toponym Dirou dates back to 1336, written as Iro, when it was a property of Nikolaos Atsagioli near Tzimova (the old name of Areopoli). The toponym has Slavic origins and means stagnant water. The village of Pyrgos is mentioned in 1571. The Battle of Vergas (Greek War of Independence, 1824) took place near Diro. In June 1826, the beach of Dirou was the site of a battle between Greeks and Egyptians, with the Maniots managing to defeat Ibrahim Pasha's forces. Pyrgos Kallistis
Pyrgos Kallistis () or simply Pyrgos () is a village on the Aegean island of Santorini, Greece, in the Cyclades archipelago with a population of 1,078 according to the 2021 census. Pyrgos is part of the Municipality of Thira and is situated approximately 7 km away from the island's capital Fira. It is built amphitheatrically on a hill that offers magnificent views of Santorini in almost all directions. On top of this hill remain the ruins of a Venetian castle (''Kasteli'') that was once the island's administrative center. Pyrgos is a typical example of medieval architecture with narrow, labyrinthine streets, fortified walls and hidden passages. Nowadays it is one of the villages of Santorini least spoiled by tourism. Kato Pyrgos () is a village in Cyprus. Kato Pyrgos is the only Greek Cypriot village located on Morphou Bay and controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. Pyrgus or Pyrgos () or Pyrgi or Pyrgoi () was the most southerly town of Triphylia in ancient Elis, at the mouth of the river Neda, upon the Messenian frontier, and hence described by Stephanus of Byzantium as a Messenian town. It is one of the six cities (along with Lepreum, Phrixae, Macistus, Epium, and Nudium) founded by the Minyans in the territory of the and Caucones.
