Ōkami
is a 2006 action-adventure game developed by Clover Studio and published by Capcom. It was released for PlayStation 2 in 2006 in Japan and North America, and in 2007 in Europe and Australia. After the closure of Clover Studio a few months after the release, a port for Wii was developed by Ready at Dawn, Tose (company), Tose, and Capcom, and released in 2008. Set in a fictional version of classical Japan, ''Ōkami'' combines Japanese mythology and Japanese folklore, folklore to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness by the Shinto Solar deity, sun goddess Amaterasu (Ōkami), Amaterasu, who took the form of a white wolf. It features a Ink wash painting, sumi-e-inspired cel-shaded animation, cel-shaded visual style and the #Celestial Brush, Celestial Brush, a mouse gesture, gesture-system to perform miracles. Clover Studio
was a Japanese video game developer founded by Capcom. The studio developed the PlayStation 2 port of '' Viewtiful Joe'', both versions of '' Viewtiful Joe 2'' for the GameCube and PlayStation 2, and the PS2 titles '' Ōkami'' and '' God Hand''. The name "clover" is an abbreviation of "creativity lover" as well as the Japanese syllables mi ("three") and ba ("leaf") coming from the names of Shinji Mikami and Clover's Atsushi Inaba. The studio consisted largely of existing Capcom R&D talent, who had formed the company (then called Studio 9) to give themselves greater executive control (and thus creative freedom), like Sega's semi-autonomous studios in the early 2000s. The studio focused largely on creating new intellectual property rather than sequels. When these failed to perform on par with Capcom's more popular series, Capcom attempted to merge the studio back into their internal R&D. Hideki Kamiya
is a Japanese video game designer and director. He began his career in 1994 with Capcom, where he directed '' Resident Evil 2'' (1998), ''Devil May Cry'' (2001), '' Viewtiful Joe'' (2003), and '' Ōkami'' (2006). From 2004 to 2006, he worked for the Capcom subsidiary Clover Studio. After leaving Capcom, Kamiya and other former staff members founded PlatinumGames in 2006. Kamiya also served as vice president from 2017 to 2023. His projects with PlatinumGames include ''Bayonetta'' (2009) and '' The Wonderful 101'' (2013). In December 2024, it was announced he had formed an independent studio named Clovers Inc., with their first project being a sequel to ''Ōkami'' published by Capcom. Atsushi Inaba
is a Japanese video game producer and businessman. He was the former Chief executive officer, CEO and producer of the Capcom subsidiary Clover Studio, who developed the games ''Viewtiful Joe (video game), Viewtiful Joe'', ''Ōkami'', and ''God Hand''. He is currently the head producer at the development division at PlatinumGames and the CEO since 2021, after years being vice-president in the company. Ikumi Nakamura
is a Japanese video game artist and director. She is best known for her work at Tango Gameworks as an artist on ''The Evil Within'' (2014) and '' The Evil Within 2'' (2017), and as creative director for '' Ghostwire: Tokyo'', before leaving the company mid-development. Cel shading or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make 3D computer graphics appear to be flat by using less shading color instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades. A cel shader is often used to mimic the style of a comic book or cartoon and/or give the render a characteristic paper-like texture. There are similar techniques that can make an image look like a sketch, an oil painting or an ink painting. Akari Kaida
is a Japanese video game music composer. She composed various soundtracks for Capcom games, including multiple in the '' Mega Man'' series.
