Ülker Gençlik ve Spor Kulübü, commonly known as Ülker or Ülkerspor, was a Turkish professional basketball club that was based in Istanbul, Turkey. The club competed in the Basketbol Süper Ligi, Turkish Basketball League. They played their home games at the Abdi İpekçi Arena. History Ülkerspor was founded in 1975, but its basketball department was created in 1993, by buying a Basketbol Süper Ligi, Turkish Super League spot from Nasaş G.S.K., Nasaş. The club have won four Turkish League titles in 1995, 1998, 2001, and 2006, with greats including Harun Erdenay, İbrahim Kutluay, Michael Anderson (basketball), Michael Anderson, Orhun Ene, Kevin Rankin (basketball), Kevin Rankin, and more recently, Mirsad Türkcan and Serkan Erdoğan. Abdi İpekçi Arena
Abdi İpekçi Arena, formerly known as Abdi İpekçi Sports Complex, was a multi-purpose indoor arena located in the Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul, Turkey, situated just outside the ancient city walls, in Yedikule. History Designed in 1979, and opened on 3 June 1989, after several years of interrupted construction, it was named after the renowned Turkish journalist Abdi İpekçi. It was the primary basketball venue in Istanbul for two decades and hosted many (mostly the international) games of Istanbul's four top basketball clubs Anandolu Efes, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Besiktas, as well as many other sports events and concerts. However, its significance declined after the opening of Sinan Erdem Dome in 2010, which surpassed Abdi İpekçi Arena as the biggest and most state of the art arena in Istanbul. EuroLeague
The EuroLeague is a European men's professional basketball club competition. The league is widely recognised as the top-tier and the most prestigious men's basketball league in Europe. The league consists of 20 teams, of which 16 are given long-term licences and wild cards, making the league a semi-closed league. The league was first organized by FIBA in 1958, subsequently by ULEB in 2000 and then solely by Euroleague Basketball. The competition was introduced in 1958 as the FIBA European Champions Cup (renamed the FIBA EuroLeague in 1996), which operated under FIBA's umbrella until Euroleague Basketball was created for the 2000–01 season. Asım Pars
Asım Pars (born Asim Paščanović; 1 April 1976 – 23 September 2024) was a Turkish professional basketball player. He stood 2.13 m tall and played as a center. He had a dual citizenship, Turkish and Bosnian. Personal life and death During the early 2000s, Pars married his girlfriend Amra Mehinović. The couple's first child, son Emre, was born in 2003. Their second child, daughter Saira, was born in 2010 in Adana while Mersin player Pars was in town for a game versus Adana Demirspor and his pregnant wife, who had accompanied him for the trip, unexpectedly went into labour. Ömer Onan (born February 4, 1978) is a Turkish former professional basketball player. Standing 1.94 m (6 ft 4 ½ in) and weighing 95.4 kg (210 lbs.), he played at the shooting guard position. Ufuk Sarıca
Ufuk Sarıca (born June 13, 1972) is a Turkish professional basketball coach and former player who played at the shooting guard position. Playing career Sarıca began his career at the age of 16 at Efes Pilsen's Youth Team, and played for Efes for 11 consecutive seasons. During his time at Efes, he won the Korać Cup in 1996, beating Italian side Olimpia Milano at the two-legged final. While with Efes Pilsen he reached the European Cup final as well as playing in the EuroLeague Quarter-finals 4 times (3 of these quarterfinals were consecutive between 1997 and 1999). He was part of the strong Efes roster along with Hidayet Türkoğlu, Ömer Onan, and Hüseyin Beşok. Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in a lower division are ''promoted'' to a higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. During the season, teams that are high enough in the league table that they would qualify for promotion are sometimes said to be in the ''promotion zone'', and those at the bottom are in the ''relegation zone'' (colloquially the ''drop zone'' or ''facing the drop''). Trabzonspor Basketbol Kulübü (), also known as Trabzonspor Basket or Trabzonspor, is a professional basketball club based in the city of Trabzon, Turkey. Alpella Spor Kulübü, or Alpella B.K., is a defunct professional basketball club that was based in Turkey. The club was founded as a humble successor to the Turkish Basketball League club Ülker G.S.K., after the Ülker corporation, which owned and sponsored the club, decided to abolish it, and merge it with Fenerbahçe Men's Basketball, Fenerbahçe.
