L'Isle-aux-Coudres (), is a municipality located on island aux Coudres, in the St. Lawrence River, in Charlevoix Regional County Municipality, Capitale-Nationale region, Quebec, Canada. Variations of the official name are: La Baleine, L'Île-aux-Coudres, Saint-Bernard-de-l'Île-aux-Coudres and Saint-Louis-de-l'Isle-aux-Coudres. Locally, the following variants are also noted: Île aux Coudriers, Île Elbow, Île aux Marsouins and Île aux Socles. Whereas the modern French spelling for "island" is ''île'', the municipality uses the old French spelling of ''Isle''. Jean Bochart de Champigny, Sieur de Noroy et de Verneuil (; 1643–September 27, 1720), was Intendant of New France from 1686 to 1702. His mandate was one of the longest, rivalling those of Hocquart and Bégon. ''Corylus cornuta'', the beaked hazelnut (or just ''beaked hazel''), is a deciduous shrubby hazel with two subspecies found throughout most of North America. Description The beaked hazelnut can reach tall with stems thick with smooth gray bark, but it can also remain relatively small in the shade of other plants. It typically grows with several trunks. The leaves are arranged in an alternate pattern. They are a rounded oval shape with a pointed tip and irregularly double-toothed margins. The leaves are long and broad, with soft and hairy undersides. The male flowers are firm catkins which form in clusters of 1-3 units on the previous year's twigs. They become elongated and pendulous in spring. Single female flowers develop in early spring. The beaked hazelnut is named for its fruit, which is a nut enclosed in a husk with a tubular extension long that resembles a beak.
