ﾃ」ila Adobe
The ﾃ」ila Adobe, built in 1818 by Francisco ﾃ」ila, is the oldest standing residence in the city of Los Angeles, California. Avila Adobe is located in the ''paseo'' of historic Olvera Street, a part of the Los Angeles Plaza Historic District, a California State Historic Park. The building itself is registered as California Historical Landmark #145, while the entire historic district is listed both on the National Register of Historic Places and as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. The Plaza is the third location of the original Spanish settlement El Pueblo de Nuestra Seﾃｱora la Reina de Los ﾃ］geles sobre el Rﾃｭo Porciﾃｺncula, the first two having been washed out by flooding from the swollen Rﾃｭo Porciﾃｺncula (Los Angeles River). Olvera Street, commonly known by its Spanish language, Spanish name Calle Olvera, is a historic pedestrian street in El Pueblo de Los ﾃ］geles Historical Monument, El Pueblo de Los ﾃ］geles, the historic center of Los Angeles. Zanja Madre
The ''Zanja Madre'' (, "Mother Trench") is the original aqueduct that brought water to the Pueblo de Los Angeles from the Rﾃｭo Porciﾃｺncula (Los Angeles River). The original open, earthen ditch, or '' zanja'' was completed by community laborers within a month of founding the pueblo. This water system was used for both domestic uses and irrigation to fields west of town. The main zanja ultimately fed eight branch zanjas. This availability of water was essential to the survival and growth of the community founded here. Brick conduits in diameter were built to improve the system after 1884. Eventually the system did not supply enough water to keep pace with population growth and irrigation demand. The system was abandoned by 1904 though portions were still used for storm water purposes. Cape Horn
Cape Horn (, ) is the southernmost headland of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago of southern Chile, and is located on the small Hornos Island. Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton suet, primarily made up of triglycerides. In industry, tallow is not strictly defined as beef or mutton suet. In this context, tallow is animal fat that conforms to certain technical criteria, including its melting point. The California hide trade was a trading system of various products based in cities along the California coastline, operating from the early 1820s to the mid-1840s. In Alta California (now known as California) and Baja California, ranchos were concessions and land grants made by the Viceroyalty of New Spain, Spanish and History of Mexico, Mexican governments from 1775 to 1846.
