Álava () or Araba (), officially Araba/Álava, is a Provinces of Spain, province of Spain and a historical territory of the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, heir of the ancient Basque señoríos#Lords of Álava, Lordship of Álava, former medieval Catholic bishopric and now Latin titular see. Its capital city, Vitoria-Gasteiz, is also the seat of the political main institutions of the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Autonomous Community. It borders the Basque provinces of Biscay and Gipuzkoa to the north, the community of La Rioja (Spain), La Rioja to the south, the province of Burgos (in the community of Castile and León) to the west and the community of Navarre to the east. Deputy General Of Álava
The deputy general of Álava (, ) is the head of the of Álava, a province of the Basque Country, Spain. The current incumbent is Ramiro González of the Basque Nationalist Party, who has held the office since 2015. The post has existed since the late fifteenth century. The first three Deputies General were selected by the monarch, but all their successors were elected by representatives of the province. The importance of the post increased gradually during the eighteenth century, while that of the '' Juntas Generales'' weakened. With the end of Basque home rule in Spain in 1876, the was denoted to the status of a provincial deputation, and the name of the post changed to president of the Deputation of Álava (, ). After the approval of the Constitution of 1978, the Foral Deputation was restored and the post of deputy general were restored. The General Assemblies of Álava (in Basque: ''Arabako Batzar Nagusiak'', in Spanish: ''Juntas Generales de Álava'') are the parliament of Álava, a province of Spain and a historical territory of the Basque Country. Basque Country (autonomous Community)
The Basque Country or Basque Autonomous Community (), also officially called Euskadi (), is an Autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community in northern Spain. It includes the Basque provinces of Álava, Araba, Biscay, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa. It surrounds two enclaves called Treviño enclave, Treviño (Province of Burgos, Burgos) and Valle de Villaverde (Cantabria). Ramiro González (politician)
Ramiro González Vicente (; born 20 April 1962) is a Spanish politician. A member of the Basque Nationalist Party, he has served as Deputy General of Álava since 2015. Biography He was born in Burgos, but moved to Vitoria-Gasteiz at the age of four. He studied law at the University of the Basque Country, and subsequently worked as a lawyer for 25 years. He is married and has two children. He has lived in Mendoza since around 2000. He became a member of the Basque Nationalist Party in 2002, and in 2007 he was elected to the ''Juntas Generales'' of Álava. During his first term, he served as deputy spokesman for the party under Deputy General Xabier Agirre. When Agirre left in 2011 after the election of Javier de Andrés, he became spokesman of the party in the ''Juntas Generales''. Agurain/Salvatierra
Agurain in Basque or Salvatierra in Spanish, officially Agurain/Salvatierra, is a town and municipality located in the province of Álava in the Basque Autonomous Community, northern Spain. The municipality has a population of 5,155 inhabitants as of 2024 and is the most populous town in the of Llanada Alavesa. The town council is headed by Iñaki Beraza, a member of the Basque Nationalist Party (EAJ-PNV). Geography The municipality is located at the centre of the eastern Alavese Plains on a low ridge 605 m above sea level.
