The 1944 Democratic National Convention was held at the Chicago Stadium in Chicago, Illinois from July 19 to July 21, 1944. The convention resulted in the nomination of PresidentFranklin D. Roosevelt for an unprecedented fourth term. SenatorHarry S. Truman of Missouri was nominated for vice president. It was the fifth time that Roosevelt had been nominated on the Democratic ticket for vice president (1920) or president (1932, 1936, and 1940). Roosevelt's five appearances on his party's ticket matched the major-party American standard of Richard Nixon, a Republican who had been nominated for vice president twice (1952 and 1956) and president three times (1960, 1968, and 1972). The keynote address was given by GovernorRobert S. Kerr of Oklahoma, in which he "gave tribute to Roosevelt's war leadership and New Deal policies."
