He completed his PhD under Professor Günthard at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, ETH Zurich in 1965, the subject of his PhD thesis was "Aufbau einer Blitzlichtapparatur mit Zündfunkenstrecke und ihre Anwendung zum Studium der Triplett-Triplett Annihilation von Anthracen in Glycerin".
In 1972 Wild was appointed assistant professor at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, ETH Zurich. He was promoted to associate professor in 1977 and to full Professor in 1984. He retired in October 2001.
