Fundraising

UBCF reported total income of $35,342,874 for the year ending December 31, 2021. It has received a Three-Star rating of "Good" from Charity Navigator, based on an assessment of its financial health and governance policies. ''. The rankings were based on how much they spent on fundraising. UBCF spent $7.2 million of the $12.7 million it had raised in 2014 on professional fundraising consultants. The organization has been criticized for highly aggressive street marketing tactics under investigation by the NYS Attorney General's Office. The founder and executive director of UBCF is Stephanie Mastroianni, who was inspired to form the organization after her mother died from breast cancer at the age of 42. Mastroianni is not a volunteer and is one of the highest paid non-profit leaders in the world at $324,500. According to the organization's IRS Form 990, the board is stacked with family members: Mastroianni, her father, Nicholas Mastroianni Sr., and her brother, Nicholas Mastroianni Jr., who comprise the three members of the board of directors.
