Christa Wolf that follows two childhood friends from the second
World War into the 1960s in
East Germany. Stylistically it demonstrates a subjectivist experimentation in prose characteristic of
GDR literature

Plot
An unnamed narrator first meets Krischan when they are school children during the end of
World War II. With the end of the war they are both displaced but reunite again as young women, when they are both taking university courses.
