Cornelius remained the starting quarterback through Week 14, at which time he signed a two-year contract extension to remain with the Elks. He received a $50,000 roster bonus on January 15, 2023, and his base salary for the 2023 season will be $165,000, with another $23,500 in allowances. The base salary increases to $200,000 for the 2024 season. On October 17, 2022, the Elks announced that Cornelius would miss the final game of the season with a spleen injury. Edmonton finished last place in the West division for the second consecutive season and missed the playoffs.
