Suraj Narredu (born 7th February, 1985) is an Indian flat racing jockey, widely regarded as one of the most successful and accomplished riders in Indian horse racing history. Known for his exceptional consistency, tactical riding style, and international experience, Narredu has accumulated over 2400 career wins, including numerous Group races and Indian Classic victories. He is also one of the youngest jockeys to have reached 1000 career wins, achieving the feat at the age of 25. Narredu has also represented Indian racing on the international stage, riding in multiple countries including Australia, the United States, France, Dubai, Macau, Malaysia, and Mauritius.


Early Life and Career

Suraj Narredu began his professional journey in horse racing when he received his apprentice jockey's license in July 2002. A prodigious talent, he was crowned Champion Apprentice Jockey during the 2003–04 Bangalore Winter Meeting. He is a second-generation jockey, following in the footsteps of his father, Satish Narredu, a prominent figure in Indian racing. By his mid-twenties, Suraj had already made a mark on the national stage, becoming the youngest Indian jockey to ride 1000 winners.


Career Achievements

Over the course of his career, Suraj Narredu has secured more than 2400 wins, including 110 Indian Classic victories and over 250 Group races. His 100th Classic win was with Long Lease in the Calcutta Oaks. He has partnered some of the greatest Indian champions to Classic victories including Be Safe, Quasar and Star Superior to name a few from his long list of Champion partners. His accomplishments span India’s premier racing events, and he has been Champion Jockey at 27 different racing meetings across the country. Some of his most prestigious victories include: 4 Indian Derby wins, including a rare streak of 3 consecutive wins, 2 Invitation Cup titles, Indian 1000 and 2000 Guineas, and St. Leger titles. He has been recognized as the Champion Jockey of the Year for four consecutive years (2020–2023), a testament to his enduring excellence in the sport.


International Career

Driven by a desire to challenge himself in diverse racing environments, Narredu has ridden and won races across the globe. He has held jockey licenses in Australia, France, Dubai and Macau. He has also won races in Malaysia, Mauritius, the United States, and Macau, adding global acclaim to his already illustrious domestic career. One of his notable international achievements was his Group 2 victory in Macau in 2014, underscoring his ability to compete among elite jockeys worldwide. In 2016, he won the Asian Racing Federation Trophy, held in Mumbai. The event attracted top officials and participants from across Asia, further elevating his profile on the international stage.
