Controversy
There was a misunderstanding between Kannadasan and
M. Karunanidhi with allegations that ''Sugam Enge'' had plagiarised Karunanidhi's ''
Ammaiyappan''. It was eventually declared that ''Sugam Enge'' was not based on ''Ammaiyappan'', but a popular folk tale.
