The virus is transmitted by aphid species in the genus '' Chaetosiphon'', mainly '' C. fragaefolii'', '' C. thomasi'', ''C. jacobi''. The virus cannot be transmitted through seeds, contact, grafting, or pollen. It is also a vector for the strawberry yellow edge-associated potexvirus.
