in only their second year of existence by defeating the favoured Orillia Rama Kings 9-7 in a thrilling Overtime Gold Medal match at the Mimico Arena in 1997. The Red Rebels finished the Round-Robin portion of the Founders Cup tournament with a 4-and-1 record. The Red Rebels met the host, Mimico Mountaineers and were pushed to overtime where they prevailed with a 7-6 win over a young netminder, Anthony Cosmo.
