uroporphyrinogen III. This
porphyrinogen is methylated at two adjacent pyrrole rings to give
dihydrosirohydrochlorin, which is subsequently oxidized to give
sirohydrochlorin. A ferrochelatase then inserts iron into the macrocycle to give siroheme.
