Kevat (a boatman) refused to carry Rama across the Ganges as Rama's feet dust had turned a rock to a woman and was worried his boat would also turn into a woman. He offered to carry them only if Rama would let him wash Rama's feet. Rama allowed this and Kevat washed Rama's feet with Ganges water and drank the water to show his devotion.
