Rashmi C. Desai is an
Indian-American physicist, professor emeritus of physics at the
University of Toronto.
He first studied physics at the
University of Mumbai, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957. He worked as a scientific officer at the
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai, India, from 1957 to 1962.
He then moved to the US and earned a Ph.D from
Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, in 1966 before working as a research associate at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 1966 to 1968. In the latter year he joined the
University of Toronto as an assistant professor, becoming a full professor in 1978, a position he held until his retirement in 2006.
