Professional career

Johnson played in the Mets farm system for two seasons before being traded to the Atlanta Braves in 1980. He made his Major League debut in 1982, and became the starting third baseman in 1984. That year he hit .279 with 5 HR’s and 30 RBI in 322 PA’s. He was released by the Braves following the 1985 season, and subsequently signed with the

as a free agent. He played for their top farm club, the Phoenix Firebirds, in 1986 before signing with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. He later played for the West Palm Beach Tropics in the
