after India gaining independence, and again from 1969 to 1980. He was a veteran socialist leader and one of the prominent figures in Bihar politics during his era. He became a martyr on August 11, 1998, sacrificing his life in a firing incident at Sitamarhi collectorate while advocating for the rights of the poor and protesting against neglect in providing relief during a movement demanding adequate relief for flood-affected survivors, as this tragic event affected several parts of North Bihar. After his martyrdom the politics of Bihar became very heated.
