Rugby in the then Czechoslovakia was much affected following the nationwide restructuring of Physical Education and Sport in 1953. The Sokol Zbrojovka Brno club split in two, Spartak Zbrojovka Brno (now
Dragon Brno) and Slavia VŠ Brno.
