Demographics

At the 2000 census there were 1,796 people, 697 households, and 515 families living in the CDP. The population density was 50.5 people per square mile (19.5/km). There were 781 housing units at an average density of 22.0/sq mi (8.5/km). The racial makeup of the CDP was 88.08% White, 9.35% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.17% Asian, and 2.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39%. Of the 697 households 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% were non-families. 21.8% of households were one person and 10.9% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 2.97. The age distribution was 21.7% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% 65 or older. The median age was 40 years.
