De Laubenfels identified the eastern populations from New Guinea to Fiji as ''P. idenburgensis'', distinguished by narrow, acute leaves, with ''P. neriifolius'' ranging from the Philippines and Sulawesi westwards to mainland southeast Asia as far as Nepal.
