to replace retiring Judge Harry G. Snyder. In the 2010 election, Judge Reilly faced fellow Waukesha County Circuit Judge Linda Van De Water. Though both candidates were Republicans, the election was framed as a contest between the more academic Reilly and the more activist Van De Water. Reilly prevailed in the election. He was selected as presiding judge of District II in 2015. He announced his plans to retire in 2021, and his retirement became effective on January 3, 2022. Judge Reilly is a former president of the Waukesha County Bar Association and a former member of the State Bar Board of Governors.
