The movie was popular at the box office. It made $1,473,000 at the box office. The ''Los Angeles Times'' called it "one of the bigger box office rip offs in quite a while... the whole aura of the film is so overwhelmingly phony that what precious few authentic moments there are may have been spoiled as well... guilty of unpardonable racism and various ethnic slurs."
