Born into a Serbian family that emigrated to

Spartak Trnava

In May 2017, El Maestro signed a two-year contract with Slovak club

, taking over as their manager from the new season. In his first season as a manager, he led them to a historic league title for the first time in 45 years.


CSKA Sofia

In June 2018, he signed a contract with Bulgarian side
