Military career

While studying at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Lindsay earned his commission through the

. He joined the Air Force in 1959, and in 1980 he was named director of operations support and interrogations in the Space Systems Division and in 1982 he was named assistant deputy commander for space operations. Lindsay worked on the Titan III and the Air Force Satellite Control Network. In 1987 he became Director of Special Projects in the Office of the
