Death

On 6 May 1996, 2 days after the 1996 Assam Legislative Assembly Election, Neog was returning home in Baruagaon,15 kilometres from the District Headquarter town of
Golaghat Golaghat ( ''Gʊlaɡʱat'' ) one of the largest subdivisions of the Indian state of Assam, later elevated to the position of a full–fledged district headquarter on 5 October 1987, is a city and a municipality and the seat of administrativ ...
. Neog, with 8 people including his driver and 5 bodyguards were all killed. The accused killers served time in prison but were later acquitted in 2013 on grounds of lack of sufficient evidence.
