Taxonomy

Based on morphology, ''Meyna'' has been suggested as likely candidate for inclusion in the ''Canthium'' subgenus ''Canthium''. In 2004, a molecular phylogenetic Research, study showed that '' Meyna tetraphylla'' is related to ''Canthium'' and the transfer to ''Canthium'' was suggested.
