Early life

Maughan was born and raised in
Point Loma Point Loma ( Spanish: ''Punta de la Loma'', meaning "Hill Point"; Kumeyaay: ''Amat Kunyily'', meaning "Black Earth") is a seaside community in San Diego, California, United States. Geographically it is a hilly peninsula that is bordered on the ...
, a peninsula within southern California, often referred to as "Little Portugal". She spent much of her youth traveling, internationally, as a member of The San Diego Children's Choir. After graduating from the University of San Diego High School, Maughan attended The University of Arizona and became a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Professional Acting from the competitive Arizona Repertory Theatre program, with a double minor in Classical Voice and Portuguese. Following her graduation, Maughan immediately moved to Los Angeles to start her career in film and television.
