. Its first chairman was Srikant Thakur Vidyalankar. The academy publishes books in Maithili along with a fortnightly magazine. Its publication ''Uccatara Maithilī Vyãkaraṇa'' (''Higher Maithili grammar'') by G. Jha has been described as "the most noteworthy contribution to the field of Maithili linguistics."
