When Maha Thammaracha IV died in 1438, King Borommaracha II of Ayutthaya installed his son Ramesuan (the future king Borommatrailokkanat of Ayutthaya) as viceroy of Sukhothai, thus marking the end of Sukhothai as a separate kingdom.
