The first meeting for the establishment of the college was held on 24 November 1963 at Madhavpur Higher Primary School near Narayanpur town and in 1964 the college was established as Narayanpur College. Madhabdev University offers Four Years Under Graduate Programmes (FYUP) are though its academic departments and affiliated colleges while Post Graduate Programmes are only through its academic departments. The university also offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in the university campus only.

Admission

Admissions for Under Graduate programmes level are generally done on the basis of CUET (UG) exam preferences in the academic departments of the university as well as its affiliated colleges. Madhabdev University Post Graduate Entrance Test (MDUPGET) has been conducted since 2023 for the admission in post graduate programmes in the academic departments of the university. Madhabdev University Research Entrance Test (MDURET) exam is conducted for admission into PhD programmes as well as UGC's other guidelines have been followed for PhD admission.
