Ljubgojna was attested in written sources in 1303 as ''Lvblgoyn'' (and as ''Lubligoy'' in 1347 and ''Lubigon'' in 1427). It is derived from the Slavic personal name ''*Ľubogojь'', thus originally meaning 'Ľubogojь's settlement'.
