History

Lake Helmuth Schack is located in the Born Park and was created artificially as a
retention basin A retention basin, sometimes called a retention pond, wet detention basin, or storm water management pond (SWMP), is an artificial pond with vegetation around the perimeter and a permanent pool of water in its design. It is used to manage ...
for the regulation of water levels. Before the establishment of the retention basin there was the ''Deesmoor'', a remnant of the glacial moor valley on the northwest edge of the Osdorf fields. A weir was constructed, and the area was flooded.Helmuth-Schack-See
