In 2014, in an interview with ABC Radio, Musgraves said she had been in a relationship with her bandmate Misa Arriaga for several years after first becoming friends and working together.

Bluebird Café in Nashville. In May 2016, they had a songwriting date, and they began dating shortly after. Musgraves said that the song "Butterflies" from her album ''Golden Hour'' is about her courtship with Kelly; many other songs from the album were inspired by Kelly.
On December 24, 2016, Musgraves and Kelly were engaged. They married on October 14, 2017 in
