(GRC) located in the West Region, Singapore, western area of Singapore. The GRC consisted of a large section of Jurong, sections of Bukit Batok and areas near Bukit Timah Road, Upper Bukit Timah Road. At abolition, the five divisions of the GRC were Bukit Batok East, Jurong Central, Taman Jurong, Jurong Spring and Clementi, Singapore, Clementi, which were managed by Jurong–Clementi Town Council.


History

In the 2011 Singapore general election, 2011 general elections, the new Jurong Spring division was created from Jurong Central and Hong Kah divisions, while Yuhua, Singapore, Yuhua became an Yuhua Single Member Constituency, SMC. In 2015 Singaporean general election, 2015, Bukit Batok was carved as an Bukit Batok Single Member Constituency, SMC while Clementi, Singapore, Clementi, a division under the West Coast GRC, was absorbed to the ward to maintain its five seats. The constituency was first contested in the 2001 Singapore general election, 2001 general election with the People's Action Party against the Singapore Democratic Party. In 2006, the PAP retained the constituency with a walkover. In 2008, Ong Chit Chung died from heart cancer. Following his death, a by-election was not called. The PAP was challenged in subsequent elections by the National Solidarity Party (Singapore), National Solidarity Party (2011), Singaporeans First (2015) and Red Dot United (2020); all three challenges failed. The GRC was led by Lim Boon Heng until his retirement from politics in 2011. After Lim's retirement, Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Desmond Lee (Singaporean politician), Desmond Lee assumed the GRC leadership, but Lee was transferred to West Coast GRC in 2020 together with Ang Wei Neng. Ivan Lim was introduced on 24 June 2020 to stand in the 2020 Singaporean general election, general election that year but withdrew 3 days later following allegations of his past behaviour. He was replaced by Xie Yao Quan. In July 2023, Tharman stepped down from Parliament and all his positions in the government and resigned as a member of the PAP in order to stand as a candidate in the 2023 Singaporean presidential election, 2023 presidential election. The constituency was dissolved in the 2025 Singaporean general election, 2025 general election. Its area was split among Jurong East–Bukit Batok Group Representation Constituency, Jurong East–Bukit Batok GRC, Jurong Central Single Member Constituency, Jurong Central SMC, and West Coast–Jurong West Group Representation Constituency, West Coast–Jurong West GRC, with a portion near Bukit Timah Hill being absorbed into Holland–Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency, Holland-Bukit Timah GRC.

(GRC), and the workload for the Bukit Batok division was given to Halimah Yacob. Tharman Shanmugaratnam resigned as Member of Parliament in 2023 to contest in the 2023 Singaporean presidential election, 2023 presidential election. However, no by-election was called as it was a GRC. Shawn Huang took over the workload for Taman Jurong, while Hamid Razak took over Jurong Spring and eventually became the MP for the Jurong Spring–Gek Poh ward in West Coast–Jurong West GRC.
