On 6 July 2020, Ipswich announced that they had taken up the option to extend Nolan's contract by an additional year, keeping him at the club until 2022. He featured regularly during the early part of the 2020–21 season, despite suffering from minor calf and groin injuries, whilst also serving a three-match suspension due to a red card he received in a match against Lincoln City on 24 October.
