John Douglas Swales (1935–2000) was an English cardiologist, professor of medicine, medical journal editor, and internationally recognised expert on hypertension. From 1961 to 1968 he held junior medical appointments. From 1968 to 1970 he was a research fellow at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. From 1970 to 1974 he was a senior lecturer at the medical school of the
