In the process, he was named to the Parade All-America Third-Team, the Texas Gatorade Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year and the Class 4A Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State Team. Yates ended up winning their second straight State Championship with Young winning the Most Valuable Player of the state final award.
